Zelensky awards Elon Musk Order of Freedom

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has presented Elon Musk with the Order of Freedom, Ukraine's highest civilian award. The recognition comes in acknowledgment of Musk's significant contributions to Ukraine's defense efforts, particularly through the provision of Starlink satellite internet terminals. These terminals have been crucial for maintaining communication networks for Ukrainian forces and civilians amidst the ongoing conflict following Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.

The Order of Freedom is bestowed upon individuals for outstanding achievements in strengthening the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, consolidating Ukrainian society, and making a significant contribution to the development of the country. Musk's decision to supply Starlink, a service operated by his company SpaceX, provided vital connectivity when traditional infrastructure was damaged or disabled, underscoring the private sector's role in supporting national resilience during wartime.
