Elon Musk, Amazon, Jio To Pay Only 5% Spectrum Usage Charge For Satellite Internet

Major tech companies, including those associated with Elon Musk's Starlink, Amazon's Project Kuiper, and Reliance Jio, are set to benefit from a reduced spectrum usage charge for satellite internet services in India. The government has proposed a significantly lower rate of 5% of Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR), a substantial decrease from the existing charges for terrestrial telecom services.

This move is crucial as it lowers the operational cost for these companies, potentially accelerating the deployment of satellite broadband across the nation. The lower spectrum fees are expected to make satellite internet more affordable for consumers, particularly in remote and underserved areas where traditional fiber optic infrastructure is not economically viable.
